This assessment will help you predict the likelihood of an individual having partner-potential and being promote-able long-term in public accounting. It is based on the general feeling among accounting firms that in order to be successful long-term, it’s necessary for an individual to be able to both maintain and attract clients over time.
This assessment works by measuring traits in the areas of people skills such as communication ability, extra-version, and assertiveness. By comparing the results to known ranges for successful individuals, and individuals that were not as successful long-term, we are able to give you additional insight into the likelihood of happiness in a role where success is dependent on the ability to maintain existing clients and develop new ones.
The assessment will take about 20 minutes online. Results are read as follows:
- 0 (no) factors outside the range: High likelihood of long-term success. This profile matches the profiles of individuals that have been successful in public accounting, stayed with firms long-term, enjoyed public accounting as a career, and have been promoted to manager and partner positions.
- 1 factor outside the range: Likelihood of success is average or better for the short-term and mid-term, as well as possibly long-term. Few assessments end up with 1 factor outside the range. Most have either no factors outside, or 2+ factors outside the range. In cases with 1 factor outside the range, make sure to take into account the supplemental information on the report as well as the long-term expectations of the individual in this role.
- 2 or more outside the range: “Partner potential” and upward mobility is low IF the role includes ongoing development of new and existing clients. Serious consideration should be given to how much client interaction and client development will be necessary for this individual’s role. There are individuals that have previously been successful long-term and also scored with 2 or more characteristics outside the range, however they generally were not directly responsible for client development or a high-level of client relationship management.
IMPORTANT NOTES: If the environment of your firm is extremely unique, or if the job is dramatically different than a typical public accounting position, those factors need to be considered. Most initial test takers were either in tax or audit related roles. Financial planning, outsourced controller roles, and other non-traditional positions may test differently. Also, an unfavorable result on this test does NOT mean an individual won’t be successful in accounting overall – it is only meant for public accounting (CPA firm) positions. And… as with all assessments, the results should be taken into consideration along with all other available information.
