Course Description: The purpose of this class is to take individuals with a Bachelors degree in Accounting (or equivalent experience) and little or no tax experience outside of college, and teach them the skills that CPA firms expect.
Content:
- Reviewing client accounting for necessary adjustments and corrections
- Detailed discussion of depreciable property and tax implications
- Detailed discussion of the character of income and proper presentation on the return
- Disposal of business assets including the recognition of resulting gain or loss
- How special allocations work, including a simple Sec. 754 election
- Issues surrounding capital accounts
- The calculation of a partner’s basis in the partnership
Class requirements:
- Bachelors degree in Accounting preferred. If you do not yet have a Bachelors degree in accounting, please call the office at 826-8000 to discuss the content.
- Access to a PC computer you can install software on. Must also have Excel.
(Software will not work on Apple computers) - A computer you can use with Zoom (camera and microphone required)
Homework: There will be homework between each class that may take an equal amount of time.
Schedule: Monday nights from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.
Class dates: Mondays on November 2nd, 9th, & 16th (3 sessions in total)
