MGR Tax Academy:  Individual Tax Bootcamp

Course Description:

The purpose of our 4-week Tax Accountant Course is to take individuals with a Bachelors degree in Accounting and little or no tax experience outside of college and teach them the skills that CPA firms expect out of experienced Tax Accountants. Classes will be taught by Brandon Howard, CPA.

Brandon currently serves as an Associate Professor of Practice in Accounting at the University of Texas-San Antonio’s Alvarez School of Business, in addition to providing accounting, tax, and specialized consulting to small businesses and individuals through BLH Accounting.

Content:

  • Handling of common tax situations for CPA-firm-level clients
  • Will use tax preparation software that is common in CPA firms
  • Work-paper preparation
  • Common obstacles that are encountered in the real world with real clients
  • Education on time budgets, billable-hours expectations,

Class requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting preferred. If you do not yet have a Bachelors degree in Accounting, significant bookkeeping experience is important.  With a degree, no experience is required.  Feel free to call 210-826-8000 to discuss with Justin Rumps or April Bagley if you need additional information.
  • Access to a PC computer you can install software on. Must also have Excel for the homework. (Tax software will not work on Apple computers)

Homework:

There will be homework between each class that requires some time outside of classroom instruction. This is the reason for the requirement to have access to a computer (see above).

Weekly schedule & class length:

Thursday nights from 6:00pm to 8:30pm at the TXCPA Society San Antonio’s training room. All four (4) in-person sessions will be available for in-person instruction.

If you are unable to attend due to illness, a Zoom link will also be available upon request.

Class dates:

Every Monday evening starting on January 12th and ending February 2nd, 2023. (1/12, 1/19, 1/26, 2/2)

Refund Policy:  Cancellations received prior to first day of class will be refunded less a $100 reservation fee.

NOTE: CE credit is available for this course.
