UTSA’s Speed Networking – An Exceptional EventMGR Accounting Recruiters in
Recently I had the opportunity to participate in the “speed networking” event in the Business School at UTSA. For those that have not been involved in this before, UTSA arranges for volunteers from the business community to participate in a workshop where the students present their “two minute elevator speech” to each professional, get feedback, and then move to the next table to once again practice and get more feedback.
From the volunteers’ perspective, it’s a very valuable event. You get to give back to the community by assisting the students in getting prepared for their career. And if you are in a position now or later of needing to recruit for your own company, you get to closely interact with a couple dozen of UTSA’s best and brightest as you help them, not to mention the networking opportunity afterwards with the rest of the group. In this particular session there were close to 100 students!
From the students’ perspective, they get the opportunity to interact with professionals in the local business community, most of which are involved in recruiting efforts at their own organizations. Plus, they get feedback from at least 5 or 6 of those professionals regarding their presentation and are able to make improvements in real time as they go from table to table. By the time they have completed the session, they have a near perfect elevator speech – a result that could have easily taken weeks under the normal conditions of researching the process and getting feedback one person at a time.
UTSA’s Business School truly does provide some great career preparation services for their students. They do a wonderful job of helping them get equipped for their search for that perfect position with which to start their career. I very much appreciated the opportunity to participate.
I wish you all the best in your search.
